Welcome to Guppy-geeks, a site dedicated to one of the most popular and wonderful fish of all, the Guppy!!

Guppies are one of "The big 4" most loved livebearers - "The big 4" includes: Guppies, Platies, Mollies and swordtails. I keep and breed Flamingo guppies and mixed Guppies at the moment.

Guppy also has another name, the "million fish" for its rapid breeding rate. The scientific name for guppy is "poecilia reticulata". Guppy originates from the late R.J. Lechmere Guppy, an English botanist who discovered this breed in 1850. However, De Filipo, a Spaniard reported of this same breed two years before the discovery. De Filipo was approved to be the first discoverer in 1913 but the fish is still named guppy to the present day.

Imagine possessing something unique, something that you alone have it in the world. It doesn't come to you often but with guppies it is possible. Some people just think of guppy as a very cheap fish or prey for bigger fishes. However with this cheap and insignificant fish you can make wonders! You get to make something unique in the world. I guess this will help you understand why there are thousands of guppy maniacs around the world breeding guppies for a new strain.
